Maggie contacted me to get some headshots for her business as a Hairstylist. She specializes in Blonding and IBE Extensions; she wanted to add some value to her social media platforms by having content to share with her followers where she could be the subject. When advertising on social media, it is super important to show your face as the business owner so that people get the sense of not only what the brand is but WHO the brand is. 

When Maggie arrived at the studio we rented in Mount Vernon, Washington, I could tell she was a bit uncomfortable. I vividly remember her telling me “ I just hope we can get five images I like enough to post on Instagram.” I let her know that the way these photo sessions flow, we should get a lot more than five photos. For every branding session, I want it to truly capture the vibe of each brand. What makes your business different from others? How do YOU appear in your brand? For Maggie, she wanted something both bold and fun, something modern and eye-catching while still incorporating the warmth you would feel when you sit in her chair. We spent the rest of the session practicing our hair flips, laughing, and getting her to show her most comfortable self, just as she would want you to feel comfortable getting your hair done.

I focused on not only her hair but on how she wanted her brand to feel. How could I incorporate photos of her that fit the vibe? What poses make her feel most confident, can I catch her in a moment of laughter, how can I incorporate movement into these images? When she made her first post with the photos online, I was so happy to see that it was a reel full of photos from our session (many more than five LOL). She mentioned that we were able to make her vision come to life! That is exactly what I wanted.
